By the fall of 2021, people were already handing out “Anti-Elon Tesla Owner” bumper stickers, but I couldn’t put one on my Tesla because it was a lease. It really is a great car. The best car I’ve ever owned. Too bad their CEO is a psychopath, as this aforementioned 4-hour documentary makes clear. The most substantive and revealing interviews were with Justine Wilson (his first wife) and Ashley St. Clair (the mother of one of his many, MANY children) as well as two sharp reporters from Wired Magazine. Otherwise, a few narrative devices don’t land as well as they could. There’s a first-person-shooter video game motif, as though Elon is shooting up the world. These segments go on too long and don’t add much. There’s also an effort to “interview” Musk himself through an animated A.I. likeness of his face and voice repeating actual Musk quotes. It’s weird and feels out of context. Oh, and the quotes are terrifying.
It’s absolutely historic how quickly this man blew up so much goodwill. He seems intent on destroying his own reputation, and the world along with it. It’s as if he’s being eaten alive from the inside out by a toxic alien parasite. We just wanted an electric vehicle for the common people. He helped provide that. We made him rich for it. And he showed his appreciation by pooping and vomiting hatred all over the world, like a monster. That makes him, I think, a finalist for worst person in the world.
